Separate weight treatment from the rest of health

Menopausal symptoms, reproductive concerns, sleep apnea and cardiometabolic risks each need their own assessment. A GLP-1 weight-management prescription does not replace treatment for hot flashes, androgen symptoms, mood changes or sexual-health concerns.

Preserve nutrition and daily function

Reduced appetite can make it harder to eat adequately. Discuss a realistic food plan and activity that helps preserve strength. Changes in energy, exercise tolerance or the ability to do ordinary tasks deserve attention even when the scale falls.

Protein and supplement needs depend on age, diet, kidney function and other conditions. Do not apply a universal high-dose supplement regimen because it is labeled for GLP-1 users.

Bring reproductive plans into prescribing

Weight-loss medicines should be reviewed before pregnancy or breastfeeding. Tirzepatide and orforglipron have specific guidance about oral contraception. Ask about the label for the actual product and make a plan before changing medicines.

For menopausal care, distinguish evidence for managing obesity from claims that the medicine treats menopause itself. Hormone therapy decisions belong in their own benefit-risk discussion.
